The Spirit of St. Anthony Award, to honor a community member who has contributed to the St. Anthony community in a significant way, was presented to Dr. Carl E. Bartecchi. He has led the Bach Mai Hospital Project in Hanoi, Vietnam for the past 17 years. The project's goal is to improve medical education and practice in Vietnam. He also spearheaded the shipment, in October 2012, of 50 tons of hospital and medical equipment from the old St. Anthony Central Hospital to the Bach Mai Hospital.
Dr. Joe Heit, a long-time friend and colleague, presented the Spirit of St. Anthony Award to Dr. Bartecchi's wife, Kay, since he was in Vietnam teaching at the Annual Fall Symposium!
The Sister Eileen Van Ackeren Award is named for the last Woman Religious to serve as administrator for St. Anthony Hospital. It honors an associate who has contributed to our St. Anthony community in a significant way. The Sr. Eileen Van Ackeren Award recipient is chosen for distinguished actions and quiet compassion.
This year's recipient was Elizabeth A. Kehl. We all know her as Liz. For the past 13 years, Liz has picked up and delivered the mail to every St. Anthony Hospital department and patient care unit – always with a smile and a cheerful word. Liz is a good friend of St. Anthony Health Foundation. She has served as a Care Worker for the annual Associate Campaign since that volunteer position was created. She is an Hour Club member, giving one hour of her pay to St. Anthony Health Foundation, every 2-week pay period of the year.
Leslie Strate presented the award, which reads: Sister Eileen Van Ackeren Award – Elizabeth A. Kehl – For your Distinguished Actions and Quiet Compassion.
Congratulations to our distinguished award recipients, and many thanks to everyone who helps continue the good work of St. Anthony Hospital with your gifts to St. Anthony Health Foundation.
